The two Masters degrees in interior design are tailored for students from different degree backgrounds.
The Master of Interior Design degree (MID) is intended for individuals without a degree in Interior Design. This course of study leads to a professional degree and prepares students for a career path in interior design. It offers two tracks: a two-year track for students with bachelors degrees in architecture or landscape architecture, and a three-year track for students with bachelors degrees in other disciplines. The culmination of this degree requires that students complete a Masters Degree project that investigates design issues related to people and the interior environment.
The Master of Arts in Interior Design degree (MaID) is a Post-Professional Degree and is intended for individuals with an accredited undergraduate degree in Interior Design. This curriculum is designed for professionals who wish to pursue advanced study in either a particular area of design eg health care design, workplace design, or hospitality design or a particular topic in interior design eg lisghting design, history of design, or sustainable desigh practices. A flexible curriculum accommodates individual research interests within a rigorous academic framework. This curriculum typically starts in the summer and offers one one-year plus one semester track of study, The culmination of the curriculum is a thesis describing the research project undertaken in the course of study.
