The Interior Design program at FIU only offers graduate degrees. Anyone from a freshman, to students who have AA degrees, to students who have baccalaureate degrees can enter the program at different levels. Interior Design offers two degrees: a professional Masters degree (MID) and a post-professional Master of Interior Design degree (MaID). These degrees prepare expert interior designers with strong professional and content background, capable of engaging in evidence-based design, and able to conduct and apply research. The Interior Design program offers comprehensive, interdisciplinary, degree programs designed to engage students in advanced study regarding public interiors. The unique urban and cultural environments of South Florida, the Caribbean, and South  America provide students with firsthand experience of a wide range of interior design issues in specialized areas of study such as hospitality design, healthcare facility design, and workplace design.

The Masters degrees in interior design are tailored for students from different degree backgrounds. We offer our new Accelerated Masters Degree for undergraduate students who seek a seemless transition from undergraduate to professional graduate studies. The Master of Interior Design degree (MID) is also available for individuals without a degree in Interior Design. This course of study leads to a professional degree and prepares students for a career path in interior design. It offers two tracks: a one-year track for students with bachelors degrees in architecture or landscape architecture, ad a two-year track for students with bachelors degrees in other disciplines. The culmination of this degree requires that students complete a Masters Degree project that investigates design issues related to people and the interior environment.

The  Master of Arts in Interior Design (MaID) is a Post-Professional Degree and is intended for individuals with an accredited undergraduate degree in Interior Design. This curriculum is designed for professionals who wish to pursue advanced study in either a particular area of design eg health care design, workplace design, or hospitality design or a particular topic in interior design eg lisghting design, history of design, or sustainable desigh practices. A flexible curriculum accommodates individual research interests within a rigorous academic framework. This curriculum typically starts in the summer and offers one one-year plus one semester track of study, The culmination of the curriculum is a thesis describing the research project undertaken in the course of study.
